Mental Health scheme Mates in Mind partners with National Counselling Society (NCS) to help construc
Mental health in construction is a significant issue, with over a third of construction workers having experienced a condition in the past year, and almost a quarter of workers considering leaving the industry due to mental health related issues (Randstad).
Furthermore, low-skilled construction workers are at a far greater risk of suicide, at 3.7 times the national average for England and Wales (Office of National Statistics), and we know that in many cases, people who complete suicide had never reached out for support.
Mates in Mind has recently announced that it has partnered with the National Counselling Society (NCS). The NCS is a not-for-profit professional association for accredited counsellors. The partnership with Mates in Mind gives construction workers an additional source of support from a nationwide accredited register of counsellors.
We know how important it is to find the right counsellor, and this arrangement gives people in need the opportunity to find the right fit for them. The arrangement also means that people can take advantage of counselling sessions at a significantly reduced rate. The service is completely confidential and the relationship is between the individual and their chosen counsellor.
By becoming a Supporter of Mates in Mind, construction companies join a growing number of organisations across the sector that are striving to improve the mental health & wellbeing of their own workforce and the industry. As Supporters, construction companies benefit from dedicated programme support to help them create, communicate and deliver a complete approach to mental health, as well as a wealth of communication and campaign materials and a range of awareness and educational materials, developed and tailored to the construction sector.
